The concept of ‘World Homeless Day’ emerged from online discussions between people working to respond to homelessness from various parts of the world.
The Inaugural World Homeless Day was marked on the 10th of October 2010.
Since its founding, World Homeless Day has been observed on every continent except Antarctica, in several dozen countries.
The purpose of World Homeless Day is to draw attention to homeless people’s needs locally and provide opportunities for the community to get involved in responding to homelessness, while taking advantage of the stage an ‘international day’ provides.
What Wokingham in Need is doing
Wokingham in Need is proud to support the homeless and vulnerable people in Wokingham and is honoured to receive the support we’re getting from the local community.
We’ve got some big plans to support our community in the near future but need your help.
WIN has a great team but we need to reach out to the community again for our latest project – a Sensory Garden for Adults with Learning Disabilities.
We are approaching local businesses already (business owners keep an eye out!) and welcome anyone and everyone to help us fund this well needed tranquil escape, so please visit us on Facebook or pop into Prospect and donate.
We will also be looking for Building and Gardening Services, so if you know of, or are a building or landscaping company, please get in touch and help support your local community! All help given will be recognised and once the project is complete a plaque of thanks will be unveiled on the site.
To Show your Support for Wokingham in Need
To show your support for Wokingham in Need, please donate as much or as little as you can. All of the money raise goes to worthy causes – please visit our Facebook page to donate.
